Are You Losing Sight of What is Most Important?

Sometimes we lose sight of what is most important and this can be for a number of reasons, one reason which I ascribe the most common is lack of motivation. A lack of motivation can come from so many different places but I find a bad mindset and bad company are the two most likely factors to decrease your level of motivation.

Have you ever wondered why one week you are up at 6am cleaning the walls for no friggin’ reason and you’re working on yourself, life, and dreams until at least 8pm and then on another week, you are in bed feeling fatigued until 1pm, you make it to the couch only, and you haven’t even left the house. Life is fickle and strange but I believe we can control all of our situations but it will be the hardest thing we do. Last week, I really lost sight of what was most important to me and felt my mental state decline into a state of constant worry and insecurity, so much so that I booked a flight to Albania, Tirana, to see someone who I know could revive and ground me. The first of many problems I made in this situation was that I was firstly, running away from my problems and secondly, relying on someone else to bring me back to the present. I was feeling demotivated and lost in my goals and my focuses.

Signs you are losing sight of what is important to you…

  • You can no longer summarize what you want for your future in a sentence.
  • It does not make you smile or motivated thinking about the future/ what is important to you.
  • Each day is a struggle to get out of bed to do the things you need to do.
  • Talking about the future or your goals feels stupid and pointless and you’d rather talk about the Kardashians.
  • You spend money you do not have on things you do not need.
  • You are losing your independence and have started to rely on the company of others to feel good.
  • You would rather sleep in till tomorrow than make more time for the things that you are falling behind on.
  • You’d rather drink 5 days a week than work on yourself and face your reality.
  • Your attitude to other people is cold and you’d rather be alone.

These are just a few things that could be indications that you are losing sight of what is important.

We all hold onto a bigger picture that we envision for ourselves for the future. Whether it is a successful career, a happy relationship, financial stability, a healthier lifestyle, a bucket list of things to do, whatever your big picture may be, it is important to you and should act as a driving force for your present. How are you ever going to obtain your bigger picture if you do not use it as motivation in your present?

However, with all of that being said, I know how susceptible we are falling off that path into state of escapism. I have watched people around me and people afar escape from their path because it isn’t going their way or they have lost sight of what is important to them. It is never easy to get back on track and the most common solution is to look for something or someone else to bring you back. It is not their responsibility and the want and the desire needs to stem from you. I have often relied on my partner to bring me back from a state of negativity and he does without fail. But is not fair or healthy that I place this expectation on him. He might not be there forever, and if he isn’t, God Forbid, will I stay in that place until someone else comes along to pull me back?

Going forward, we must always, no matter what, hold onto what is the most important to us and to promise ourselves that we will never lose sight of it. That despite what life puts in our way, that we will never let it tarnish the picture we have of ourselves in the future. To know that we are stronger than adversity and that we deserve the future we envision. Most importantly, we need to be able to rely on ourselves to be the biggest motivation to push for that bigger picture. You do not need someone else to tell you that you deserve to be happy, you need to know that you deserve it. Regardless of what you have done, said, or thought, you are just as worthy of being happy and fulfilled as the most virtuous person on the planet. It is not about what you have done in the past, it is about how you move forward and the promises you make to yourself from then on out.

I wish that I had the unwavering strength to be like this all the time, but I don’t right now and sometimes, I much prefer to flee to an exotic country and escape my problems which I have done most of my life. The one fact that always remains the same is that those problems will still be there when you get back, you are only delaying them. But as I mentioned above, I am going to move forward knowing what it is I deserve and to promise myself to always strive for my dream and to not let circumstance be the reason I couldn’t get to where I wanted to be and I advise you do to if you want to stop feeling like the world is spinning but you’re not going anywhere.

Stay positive and stay safe!
